The last note a concluding statement
In three short fast weeks I have concurred the world of theater and all that contains and has to offer. Not only have I learned a ton about theater but I have also learned a lot about other people’s cultures, how they act and interact and how they simply live life. Yes I have learned a ton about different aspects of theater and how it is run. Before this class I honestly thought wow theater what a bunch of losers and made fun of them I was your typical teenage jock. Now that I have took this class and under stand what these people go through and what all they do simply to get one performance completed. They really deserve an apology by my self so I am sorry, also they deserve a standing ovation. I played varsity football all through out high school and now that I am looking at it, with theater these people have to put just as much time and effort into it and it completely relates the producers and mangers are the coaches and the leading roles are the stand out performers on the field and on the stage. Then the lead performers are surrounded by a supporting cast all so known as the team.
After reading the text and taking the quizzes and really thinking about theater wow it is ALL around us every where we look and every where we go theater is and always will be there. I always thought theater as actors and people running around dancing, memorizing lines and they’re the main stars. But what I did not realize is, it goes a lot deeper than and there are so many more things that goes in to it and there is so much more than just that.
To do theater or see it we don’t have to go to a actual theater or school play all we have to do is act something out or take pride in what we are doing. It can be as little as messing around with friends and having a somewhat wild imagination. Or it can be as big as a 5 star out of this work amazing Broadway showing. A small example that is really stupid but I do it all the time is just having fun and making games or imaginging thigns to create a situation where your working and no having fun and turning it into something completely different and out of the ordinary. , I am a landscaper but I was working on something by my self and instead of just sitting there and picking weeds out of the ground I was round up man. I pretended I was in the wild Wild West back in the olden days and my round up weed killer was my gun. I walked around and shot the entire weeds saw essentially killing them and becoming the bad guy. I walked around contounsisly look for more weeds to shoot and kill. As stupid as that may sound it helped pass time and at the time yea I though wow this is really stupid I hope no one is watching. But now looking back what I didn’t realize is I was in my mind performing a theater performance, the stage was a backyard and I was the main character playing a wild west cop solving crime finding and killing the bad guys.
This is just one example in my everyday life where I used theater to kind of spice things up and have fun. This just goes to show you that even the people that hate or hated theater they selfs are actial actors and artisans.
This class has made myself heavily appreciate the theater world and art world entirely. Going to a play really helped me do that by opening my eyes to the world and really seeing what all goes into a production. This class has made a huge impact on my life and my views of things in general!
Passion Peice The Lion King
Before writing this piece even though I thought I knew also about The Lion King wow boy was I surprised when I found a lot of neat and cool things about the story and production I had no idea about. For instance The Lion King was actually strongly influenced by the play Hamlet written and produced by the legend himself William Shakespeare. Another very shocking thing I found out was, I knew The Lion King was huge but I did not think it was big enough to set the all time highest grossing animated film its recorded stood until Finding Nemo hit theaters. Finding Nemo most likely would not have been possible with out the Lion King so in some sense the Lion King kind of gave birth the a new record setter and a new age in animated films. Even though the move still doesn’t hold the record for highest grossing it does however sill hold the all time record for the highest grossing traditionally animated film ever to be created. The Lion King actually king of created its own age or era of movies and kicked off what is now known as the Disney renaissance. It is so true if you look back and think about it when I was younger that is all there was every where you looked always a Disney movie. To this day watching tv or if your out somewhere or at the big screens you will always see ads for up coming Disney productions. Now look back and back then when this era was created take what we have today and multiply that by 2 to get the amount of total Disney precautions that were being created. The feature film The Lion King also still holds the recorded for highest grossing 2D animated film in the United States. After all was said and done The Lion King is the 24th highest grossing feature film of all time and grosses a whopping 783 million worldwide.
Enough of all this recorded setting and numbers now lets get to the main reason why I chose The Lion King the awesome plot and story line that stole the eyes of millions.
The story begins in the African Pride Lands where lions rule all of the lands as far as any one can see. One of the leaders but not king Rafiki is one of the oldest and wisest lions to ever roam the lands. When the king Mufasa’s lady lion gave birth to a lion cub names Simba he presented him to all of the animals so every one could see who would reign the land after Mufasas time.
As time goes on Simba becomes more eduated about the circle of life and how things and life are ran in the pride lands his father and king does a wonderful job. However Simba is also drawn to his little to be known evil uncle Scar. Scar also takes Simba around and trys to show him the ways of the lands but his way of showing is a much deeper and darker side and way of the lands.
Will Simba roam the lands after his father is done or will his father be killed or forced off the thrown? Will Scar have a big impact on Simbas life or will Scar have a much deeper impact on all of the animals that life in these lands?
What else happens ill wait and let you find out, how ever I will leave you with one last paragraph summarizing The Lion King and where and when and how much you can see this wonderful production.
The Lion King. I think this is a play that every kid of my generation would and does want to see, weather a regular theater goer or a not so much goer like myself. I think everyone in can remember when the movie first came out and households around the nation were memorized all sitting there watching the Lion King. I can remember all the way back to my dipper and toddler days sitting in front of the TV watching, and in the back yard acting out the parks of Simba and pretending to be in a stampede. This featured presentation is currently listed as a musical, award winning, kid friendly and dance production. The Lion King is one of the longer running presentations lasting 2 hours and 45 min with a intermission. The show has been performing since opening night on October 15th 1997. This long lasting award winning and family favorite presentation has music from Elton John and lyrics from Tim rice. All of the scenic design was created from the hands of Richard Hudson. Dashaun Young steals the audiaunce playing Simba, with Nathaniel Stampley as Mufasa. This is a highly recommended production being one of the longest Broadway running productions. I truly look forward to seeing this piece. You can find this show playing everyday at 2 and 8 oclock. Ticket prices range from 81 to 134 dollars each.

Theater related to Finance
In order to have a sussceful theater up and running there is going to be some end of financials or money exchanging going on, whether is from customers to ticket office or manager to actors there is an exchange of money taking place and that is where the financial end comes into play. In order for a theater to make money financial officers are needed to keep track of where all of the money is going. Financial people are needed to figured out the right ticket prices, how much to pay for actors, how much a production is worth and how much it could potentially bring in. there is a quote that goes “ there is no such business as show business” that goes to show that theater is in fact a living and breathing business and it does have finances deeply tied into it.
Finance cant just live by its self either, to have a surviving finance firm, yes you have to be on top of your game and serious about what you do. However on the other end you also need to relax and have a little fun from time and time again. Talking to some friends already in the finance world look at the stock market, if you have ever watched or seen where everyone is bidding on stocks that are kind of a theater performance. The stock brokers are told what to bid on or buy by the director, or head of the firm. The brokers or supporting cast then go and act out or perform the task that was given to them.
Almost all aspects of theater can be and are related to the finance field the chief executive or CEO in the financial field is simply thr writer and director of the play or of the finance firm. Around him he is surrounded by his supporting cast, the producer which trys his best to hold up the administration and financial end, the managers do their best to fill paper work out and do payroll for the actors or actresses that they represent. Then comes the program manager who is in charge of up keep of the set and work place and to make sure that everything ands everyone is running smoothly.
So after stepping back and looking at it theater and finance don’t really match up that good together but if you look at it closely they have each other other imbedded into one another. Its just not easy to see but it is indeed there. With out one or the other, the other would not and could not succeed.
Theater related to hobbies
When really looking at the things I do and analyzing Things Theater is all around me and I am performing theater and I don’t even realize it. Deep down none of us really realize how much performing, acting or what ever you want to call it we perform theater actions. Theater really is a savings grace to many people when thinking about it we all think to our selves or make up games when were bored. I mean the other day at work, I am a landscaper but I was working on something by my self and instead of just sitting there and picking weeds out of the ground I was round up man.
That is just a dumb and silly example of theater in our everyday lives but its proof that we really do perform theater almost if not for sure every day of our lives. I mean we don’t have to rehearse everyday or go to lessons or do anything professional but we can be doing something so little as doing the dishes or cleaning up our rooms at home. If we pretend or want to make it into something that its not that is a theater performance that is bringing theater to life in our minds.
Other ways that theater is and relates to my everyday life is when playing sports. Always in my mind I’m going through what the other team or person is going to do. In my head there is a theater performance of the opposite player or team performing what they do or are going to do.
We all have creative minds some a lot more than others. Mine being not so much as creative and theater based. I was never the kid in the plays I was actually in fact the kid in the crowd making noise and distracting people but now when I really look at it. I am one of the biggest actors around I constantly act things out or perform theater and I don’t even realize it. I challenge everyone to sit down and look at what you do throughout a day and think wow was this a performance or theater like.
Theater profile The Fulton
The Fulton Theater originally was built as to be a meeting hall and has over the years been carved and transferred into how and what stands today. Originally Christopher Hager built the building to serve as a community center, believe it or not a weird fact the theater was actually built on the foundation of Lancaster’s pre-Revolutionary jail where a gang massacred all of the remaining Conestoga Indians. This massicutre as ironic as it may be actually served as a plot for one of Americas originally theater performances.
After a big over hall renovation the grand opening took place on October 2nd 1873, with a performance of the Othello. This originally play was performed solely to the benefit of needy children that had been displaced because of the civil war. After another renovation was completed by local builders and artisans in 103 the addition of the Peanut gallery was completed adding space and box seats.
Due the addition of the big screens and movie showings the Fulton was close and near to shuting its doors to good, however took a gamble and stayed open hoping to draw in new audiances and bigger crowds. In 1931, Ethel Barrymore appeared in a play called The Love Duel, and the Drama Club of Lancaster presented an amateur production of George Kelly’s The Torch Bearers. However wasn’t very susscefull making the Fulton a second rate theater compared to those showing movies on a big screen.
After being declared a second rate theater the Fulton’s heart beat was almost a stop until a article published in the New York theater playbill served as fire to light the envision to a grand re opening. In 1957, new management repositioned the theatre as an art movie house, with occasional stage performances. In 1969, a community theatre group, Actors Company of Pennsylvania, began presenting musicals and plays.
Then sadly another theater recession hit the Fulton causing them to contiousnly rent the stage to community groups to get by. These community groups tried to keep the theater going by making and producing plays of their own.
The year 1989 one I like because I was born that year also saved the theater. The Fulton was voted to restore the theater to its original Victorian style. Then on October 14, 1995 the doors officially reopened and the theater glowed.
Since The Fulton Opera House is one of only eight theatres in the United States recognized as a National Historic Landmark, and is considered to be the nation's oldest continuously operating theatre.
Many actors and actresses have set foot on the Fulton’s vast stage to name a few the Barrymore family, Sarah Bernhardt, W. C. Fields, Alfred Lunt, Al Jolson, and Irene Dunne, Mark Twain, a young actress named Helen Brown, Marcel Marceau and hundreds more. The Fulton is a nonprofit theater , and serves over 100,000 people annually through all programs.
broadway
The easiest way to look up Broadway information I found was by going on the internet and going to www.broadway.com . This website is defiantly a life saver to many theater goers. It has everything you could possibly need from finding a show by kinds to buying tickets to travel packages, and much much more.
Currently the website is listing Wicked as the number one best seller fallowed by Billy Elliot, Mary poppings, Jersey Boys, and The lion King at number five, with Mamma Mia fallowed by, Hair, The West Side Story, God of Carnage, with The Phantom of the Opera to round out the top ten. I have heard extremely good things about Wicked, by a friend of mine who is a big time Broadway buff. Wicked is listed as “the gravity defying global phenomenon as a musical, comedy, and kid friendly performance. Nicole Parker stars as Elphaba with Alli Mauzey playing Glinda in a strong supporting role. This performance is directed by Joe Mantello. Tickets for this masterpiece are currently on sale through the website listed at 131.25 for one orchestra seat to 67.25 for a rear mezzanine seat ona Saturday night. Wicked has been showing since a stellar performance on opening night on October 8th 2003. The show is listed to have tickets on sale all the way up to March 14th 2010. This show is here for the long haul and if I’m ever in New York City I may just surprise my girlfriend and see this fun loving play.
The main play however that I really look forward to seeing is in at number five on the websites top 10 list, The Lion King. I think this is a play that every kid of my generation would and does want to see, weather a regular theater goer or a not so much goer like myself. I think everyone in can remember when the movie first came out and households around the nation were memorized all sitting there watching the Lion King. James Andreassi, great guy but yet not so much famous
James started his theater life at a young age enjoying playing with his friends and acting in theater plays through his school days. James worked his way through his schooling before hitting the theater world at full force. He quickly made a huge impact with rolls all over the United States. James did not just stick to America so showcase his talents he went over sees performing in many different counties all over the vast world we live in.
Like any performers in the theater who all have their dreams about Broadway, James was no different he just like every other one of them wanted to life that fast passed amazing Broadway life that everyone claims to be so amazing and breath taking. Many performers live the life and then lose track of their morals or why they or how they even got to where they are. Many performers become washed up, or become over thrown by the whole experience and turn to drugs or turn their life for a much worse path.
I am extremely thankful to say that James kept his head on his shoulders during his life, well all the way to this point at least. He was very fortunate and extremely lucky and didn’t get completely caught up in everything going on around him, even when he had a brief Broadway life.
However, he did contune with his proformaces, I guess as it goes the show much go on. James is well known for his performances at home in the United States, however he is also known for his traveling in China. He is the first American to appear with a Chinese theater troupe. He preformed all over the People’s Republic of China and at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in the Long Wharf Theater. James has performed at many theaters some of these theaters include; the Long Wharf Theatre, the American Repertory Theatre, the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, the Cleveland Playhouse, the Rep. of St. Louis, the Three River Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare & Co., the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, and the Pioneer Theatre Co., and most recently the Fulton Opera House. James was also on Bradway for a breife period of time he conducted most of his time at the Mint Theater, the New York Theatre Workshop, and on ABC's One Life to Live. James also is the founder and Artistic Director of The Elm Shakespeare Company in New Haven, CT. Not only has James acted in many plays but he has also directed. In the Elm Shakespeare Company he has directed Henry IV, Part 1, The Tempest, Macbeth, Othello, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, The Three Musketeers and Robin Hood. In 1993/94.
James didn’t just keep his life on the road performing theater, sure that was a big part of his life. But like many theater performers James’s heart also laid in teaching and educating the younger generations on his theater experiences and vast knowledge he had learned and gathered over his years. He has taught and lectured on acting, Shakespeare and the theatre at Yale University, Southern Connecticut State University, Quinnipiac University, the Yale Center for British Art and at the Hopkins School.
After really looking over his life and his acting life i have become to appreciate him even more than I previously did. James really was a good person. Like I stated earlier James is by far not famous or known by a lot of people but however he is known to me and many other people in this world. I believe that many people see how much of a good person James is. Not only did he perform in theater and soak up and enjoy his time spent at the peak of his career but now and he has been contounily giving back to the community and younger generations. Due to James’s constant strives towards improving communities and giving back to younger generations I wish other performers would try to be more like James because that is what I believe makes a famous theater performer.
