For my show report of passion piece I have chosen The Lion King. I have loved this show ever since my dipper days. The Lion King made tis world wide feature opening night being released to theaters on June 15th 1994. The Lion King was produced and made by Walt Disney Pictures, many believe The Lion King to be the savior or to be what really put Walt Disney on the map where it is and created it to be what it is today. The Lion King was actually the 32nd film in the Disney animated feature canon.
Before writing this piece even though I thought I knew also about The Lion King wow boy was I surprised when I found a lot of neat and cool things about the story and production I had no idea about. For instance The Lion King was actually strongly influenced by the play Hamlet written and produced by the legend himself William Shakespeare. Another very shocking thing I found out was, I knew The Lion King was huge but I did not think it was big enough to set the all time highest grossing animated film its recorded stood until Finding Nemo hit theaters. Finding Nemo most likely would not have been possible with out the Lion King so in some sense the Lion King kind of gave birth the a new record setter and a new age in animated films. Even though the move still doesn’t hold the record for highest grossing it does however sill hold the all time record for the highest grossing traditionally animated film ever to be created. The Lion King actually king of created its own age or era of movies and kicked off what is now known as the Disney renaissance. It is so true if you look back and think about it when I was younger that is all there was every where you looked always a Disney movie. To this day watching tv or if your out somewhere or at the big screens you will always see ads for up coming Disney productions. Now look back and back then when this era was created take what we have today and multiply that by 2 to get the amount of total Disney precautions that were being created. The feature film The Lion King also still holds the recorded for highest grossing 2D animated film in the United States. After all was said and done The Lion King is the 24th highest grossing feature film of all time and grosses a whopping 783 million worldwide.
Enough of all this recorded setting and numbers now lets get to the main reason why I chose The Lion King the awesome plot and story line that stole the eyes of millions.
The story begins in the African Pride Lands where lions rule all of the lands as far as any one can see. One of the leaders but not king Rafiki is one of the oldest and wisest lions to ever roam the lands. When the king Mufasa’s lady lion gave birth to a lion cub names Simba he presented him to all of the animals so every one could see who would reign the land after Mufasas time.
As time goes on Simba becomes more eduated about the circle of life and how things and life are ran in the pride lands his father and king does a wonderful job. However Simba is also drawn to his little to be known evil uncle Scar. Scar also takes Simba around and trys to show him the ways of the lands but his way of showing is a much deeper and darker side and way of the lands.
Will Simba roam the lands after his father is done or will his father be killed or forced off the thrown? Will Scar have a big impact on Simbas life or will Scar have a much deeper impact on all of the animals that life in these lands?
What else happens ill wait and let you find out, how ever I will leave you with one last paragraph summarizing The Lion King and where and when and how much you can see this wonderful production.
The Lion King. I think this is a play that every kid of my generation would and does want to see, weather a regular theater goer or a not so much goer like myself. I think everyone in can remember when the movie first came out and households around the nation were memorized all sitting there watching the Lion King. I can remember all the way back to my dipper and toddler days sitting in front of the TV watching, and in the back yard acting out the parks of Simba and pretending to be in a stampede. This featured presentation is currently listed as a musical, award winning, kid friendly and dance production. The Lion King is one of the longer running presentations lasting 2 hours and 45 min with a intermission. The show has been performing since opening night on October 15th 1997. This long lasting award winning and family favorite presentation has music from Elton John and lyrics from Tim rice. All of the scenic design was created from the hands of Richard Hudson. Dashaun Young steals the audiaunce playing Simba, with Nathaniel Stampley as Mufasa. This is a highly recommended production being one of the longest Broadway running productions. I truly look forward to seeing this piece. You can find this show playing everyday at 2 and 8 oclock. Ticket prices range from 81 to 134 dollars each.
